We’re supporting period equality
Because of our day job (being the UK’s leading hygiene services company), period equality is a cause that is a natural fit for phs and something that we are passionate about supporting. That’s why we’ve created phs Period Equality, a programme of activity designed to do four things:
- Raise awareness of the scale of the issue
- Invoke action to meet the fundamental needs of girls who can’t afford or access period products
- Break through the stigma of talking about periods and period poverty
- Create a practical solution to achieving period equity
- Provide a range of period products to our own colleagues who need them, when they need them.
Making a difference
As part of this phs Period Equality initiative, we commissioned research into the experiences and opinions of girls surrounding period equality which kick started an awareness-raising campaign.
We have been appointed to the UK Government’s official Period Poverty Taskforce with one common goal; eliminating period poverty. In partnership with Bloody Good Period, phs is leading one of just three workstreams tasked at improving access to period products for those who need it. We believe that bringing together our expertise, experience and resource will create a force to be reckoned with.
We also sit on the Welsh Government’s Period Dignity Taskforce and Blaenau Gwent’s Period Equality Taskforce, which have both been set up to ensure products are reaching the girls that need them.
During 2019 and 2020, phs was recognised for its work around Period Equality, by scooping up several awards at the CIPR Wales PRide Awards and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Marketing Excellence Awards, including Best Education Campaign, Best Innovative New Product/Service campaign and Best Corporate Communications campaign.
What’s more, we’ve pledged to offer the phs period products vend machines free of charge to the education sector.*
We believe every girl should have access to free period products – because they are a necessity, not a luxury. Together, we can make a difference and prevent periods from holding young people back.

Hands, face and space, but what about the air we breathe?
Air Care is set to become a vital component in the fight against Viruses. Our AERAMAX® PROFESSIONAL air purifiers remove up to 99.99% of harmful viruses, germs, allergens and particulates from the air, safely and easily.
In additional, phs’ AERAMAX PROFESSIONAL III & IV air purifiers have recently demonstrated, through independent laboratory testing, to be effective in eliminating aerosolised concentration of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) by 99.9999% through a single air pass test of the purifier. And our AERAMAX PROFESSIONAL air purifiers reached 99.99% airborne reduction of a surrogate Human Coronavirus 229E in a 20m³ test chamber within 1 hour of operation in a separate test.
Advanced air purification
Whilst our BIOZONE and MINI POWERZONE units, which destroy viruses including Human Flu and H5N1 Avian Flu (Bird Flu) as well as surface bacteria such as E. coli, Salmonella and Streptococcus, where also independently tested for effectiveness against SARS-CoV-2 by a third-party lab. The results found, the UV light technology which treats airborne contaminants passing through the units - possibly containing COVID material -have shown a>99.999% inactivation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the virus that causes COVID-19, in less than 1 second of exposure.
