Nationwide Services from Local Depots
Diverting hygiene waste away from landfill.
When waste is sent to landfill it can take thousands of years to decompose, this is why we are proud to be the only organisation, on such a national scale, to be diverting our customers hygiene waste away from landfill. In 2017, we launched the industry leading phs LifeCycle Strategy. This strategy ensures that up to 95% of hygiene waste collected by us is diverted away from landfill and sent to energy from waste facilities, where it is turned into renewable energy for the national grid. In 2023, 92% of waste we collected was diverted from landfill. While our depots in London and the Midlands have been zero to landfill for over 3 years.
phs set benchmarks to drive positive change.
As the leading hygiene services provider in the UK, Ireland, and Spain, it is our responsibility to set benchmarks for standards in our industry.
phs Group operates an ISO14001 accredited Environmental Management System and has a target to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2040. Our Net Zero pathway involves decarbonisation of our estate and a reduction in Fleet and Scope 3 Emission
We internally develop new products, allowing us to provide solutions that are kinder to the
environment. Our range of patented products help to reduce water usage, purify air, and reduce carbon emissions. We also have an inhouse team of experts who focus on refurbishing and recycling our products to prolong their life.
Over the past few years, we have actively been working to make our service fleet more fuel efficient and environmentally cleaner. This has included the introduction of hybrid and electric vehicles. We also innovate wherever possible and have introduced electric cargo bikes and on-foot services in our city depots, to avoid the use of vehicles altogether.
At phs, we are in a unique position to help eradicate inequality in the washroom. We don’t shy away from provoking awkward conversations when it comes to Period Equality and providing support to men living with incontinence. Together with Prostate Cancer UK, we are actively driving change in Health and Safety Legislation to ensure everyone has access to a dignified washroom experience. Since 2019, we have regularly commissioned expert research to establish societal needs, allowing us to develop the educational resources and products people need to live healthy lives.
