Through pioneering initiatives like Dispose with Dignity and BOG STANDARD, we not only raise awareness but actively provide solutions that make a difference in men’s lives. This month, we renew our focus on education, advocacy, and action, underpinned by a commitment to both physical and mental wellbeing.
Championing Dignity and Wellbeing
Dispose with Dignity was born out of the need to address male incontinence. A subject that’s often overlooked and considered taboo, male incontinence impacts countless men who often suffer in silence due to a lack of adequate facilities. Our mission is simple: to ensure that men can manage their condition with dignity and ease. This is why we're working with businesses to provide male incontinence bins, empowering men to dispose of their incontinence products discreetly and hygienically. Putting a bin in place is more than a convenience – it’s an essential step towards fostering dignity and improving quality of life.
Complementing this, our BOG STANDARD initiative furthers the cause by pushing for inclusive, well-equipped washrooms. We have worked tirelessly to elevate awareness, release impactful whitepapers that outline the scale of the issue, and encourage businesses to integrate these supportive and inclusive facilities.
Prostate Cancer UK and the TRANSFORM Trial
Men’s health isn’t just about providing physical solutions, it’s about funding research and fostering long-term change. This is why we’re proud partners with Prostate Cancer UK, supporting their groundbreaking TRANSFORM trial, which is set to redefine how prostate cancer is detected and treated. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in the UK, with one in eight men diagnosed during their lifetime.
Fundraising Across phs Group
Throughout November, teams across our Group are rallying to raise money for the TRANSFORM trial. From bake sales to sponsored challenges, the month is brimming with activities aimed at both engaging our workforce and contributing to a worthy cause. The sense of camaraderie and collective purpose during Men's Health Month underscores the importance of supporting one another - not just in the workplace but in our wider community.
International Men's Day
November 19th is International Men’s Day, a significant date that emphasises positive male role models and raises awareness of men’s health issues. This year, we are excited to reveal something we’ve been working on, including our strategic outreach to support BOG STANDARD washrooms in public spaces and our push for better access and facilities for men.
Health Beyond the Physical
Dealing with health challenges like prostate cancer and incontinence goes beyond the physical, it profoundly impacts mental health as well. Men facing these issues often experience stress, anxiety,
and diminished self-esteem. By promoting open dialogue and offering resources, we aim to dismantle stigma and create a supportive environment for all men.
Key Facts:
· 78% of men feel anxious about accessing disposal facilities when leaving home.
· 64% of men have not been able to attend major life events due to their incontinence.
· 34% of men find it hard to locate a bin in public toilets.
